On September 17, 2005, the U.S. Postal Service® issued the "Let's Dance/Bailemos" commemorative stamps collection, honoring the contributions of the Latino community to American culture.

The stamps were issued in Miami and New York City, featuring images that showcase one of four popular dances on each stamp; Merengue, Salsa, Mambo and the Cha-Cha-Cha.

The stamps were designed by Ethel Kessler of Bethesda, Maryland, based on the personal interpretations of the dances made by four Latino artists.

The original design for the Merengue Stamp was created by the internationally known illustrator Rafael Lopez, who grew up in Mexico City, Mexico.

In an interview with iSalsa, Lopez explained his inspiration for the stamp design.

I'm passionate about Latin music and dancing. Merengue has a unique way of creating a chemistry and interaction between dancing partners. There is that quick sideays motion of the hips as you pressed closely together.

The stamp is available for purchase from the USPS in several mediums.
