Marianela Jiménez (1925-2013)

Marianela Jiménez Reyes, born 1925 in Valverde, Mao, and died in 2013 in Santo Domingo.

She studied at the National School of Fine Arts in Santo Domingo, and at the workshops of  Celeste Woss y Gil, George Hausdorf and José Gausachs.

Between 1977 and 1979, she studied printmaking with the Club de Grabado de Montevideo in Uruguay.

She won numerous awards throughout her career, including the Medal of Honor from the National School of Fine Arts (1944), Second Prize for Painting at the Palacio de Bellas Artes Biennial (1950).

Jiménez participated in hundreds of group exhibitions in the Dominican Republic, Peru, Argentina, France, Spain and United States.

In 1989 she was appointed director of the National School of Fine Arts, which was requested by the teaching staff of the Academy.

In 1998, the Dominican government awarded Marianela Jiménez ranking within the Order of Duarte, Sanchez y Mella.
